11th Grade College Prep Timeline
Students:
Review your courses with your counselor to make sure that you are satisfying both college preparatory and high school graduation requirements. Update your SEOP (4-year plan).
Use the UtahMentor interactive test prep tool to prepare for these exams.
Check with your counselor to find junior specific scholarships.
August/September
Find out schedules for the PSAT, ACT, and SAT exams.
Register for the October PSAT exam. Remember this is the test that will qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship Program!
October/November
Take the PSAT.
Use your PLAN score and your cumulative GPA to calculate your Utah college admission index score. Ask your counselor for a UtahMentor/Utah Council Student Guidebook to see what colleges and universities that you are academically eligible to attend.
Use UtahMentor's Select a School section to research colleges and universities that you are interested in.
December
You will receive your PSAT results this month. Ask your counselor to review your scores with you and determine a course of action for the ACT and SAT exams.
Remember to use UtahMentor's test preparation tool for both the ACT and SAT.
January/February
Register for the April ACT or consider the March SAT. Remember that these tests are different and measure different abilities. You may consider both exams to see which one you score higher on.
Register for next year's senior classes. Make sure you maintain a rigorous academic college preparatory schedule. Also, make sure you are satisfying high school graduation requirements. Remember to make use of college credit classes, AP, IB, and Concurrent Enrollment.
April
Take the ACT.
June
Update your folder/file/portfolio/SEOP with report cards, honors, awards, club activities and community service materials, and update your eBackpack Profile.
