Salt Lake Community College welcomes international students. SLCC is authorized to issue the USCIS form I-20 to qualified nonimmigrant students. Students must complete an international application and meet all admission requirements to receive the I-20. SLCC accepts international students who have satisfactorily completed secondary school. Students who transfer from another college or university must have at least a C average (2.0 GPA) or equivalent in previous college work.

Application Instructions

This application should be used by any student who will be in the U.S. on a visa. Submit the following items:

FAXED DOCUMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

  1. Online application for admission: Fill out this online application for admission. When you are finished, click the SUBMIT button on the left column of any application screen. Once you have completed the online application, you will need to pay the $65 nonrefundable fee (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express).

  2. Financial statement: 1) Submit official bank statements showing at least $17,600 (USD) in liquid assets; 2) notarized pdfFinancial Statement from your sponsor.

  3. No TOEFL Required: SLCC offers an Intensive English Program. To be placed into classes all students will take the Accuplacer test. Students who do not have the English proficiency required for college-level work will enroll 20 hours per week in the ESL Program.

    Students without test scores will be issued an I-20 for our Intensive English Language Program.

    If available, TOEFL scores must be less than two years old. Students scoring 133 or above on the CBT or 45 or above on the IBT will be issued an I-20 for an academic major. Students who score between 133 and 172 on the CBT or between 45 and 63 on the IBT are admitted to the College Level Four ESL classes. Our institution code for TOEFL is 4864. Admission to the Intensive English Program is based on no TOEFL score available or CBT score below 133 or IBT score below 45.

    NOTE: Gaining proficiency in English may require as long as ONE YEAR and may delay entry into their degree programs. Students should plan their course of study and financial support accordingly.

  4. Transcripts: Submit official proof of high school graduation or college transcripts.

    International students must submit:

    • An official diploma or certified copy of high school graduation (international admissions policy requires satisfactory completion of secondary education or the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma)

      OR

    • Official transcripts for each post-secondary school, college or university attended by the applicant.

      Faxed documents are not accepted.

    Evaluations can be obtained through a foreign credential evaluation service. Information about these services is available from International Student Services international.services@slcc.edu.

  5. Notice of intent to transfer: This form is required from students transferring from schools in the U.S. and must be completed by your previous school's advisor.

    Students transferring from schools within the U.S. must submit a transfer form signed by the international student advisor certifying that the students have been enrolled full-time and maintained F-1 student status. Overall grade point average (cumulative) for new and transferring students must be a 2.0 or better for consideration for admission.

  6. Copy of Student Passport: The copy should show the main page with student picture, name, and expiration date.


  7. After all the requested documents and credentials have been received, the application for admission will be evaluated. If approved, an I-20 form will be issued to the prospective student.

*Application for admission is valid for one year.

For students transferring from colleges or universities within the U.S., an international application and all supporting documents must be received at least six weeks before classes begin. The following documents and credentials are to be submitted to International Student Services before the college can issue an I-20.

Instructions

To complete this online application, type your answers in the corresponding fields or select your answers from the popup lists (where applicable).

After you complete a screen, click the NEXT button at the bottom or on one of the sections listed on the left column to move to a different screen. Before you are allowed to jump screens, we will inspect your data on the current screen for errors or inconsistencies. If errors or omissions are found, you will be returned to the screen to correct your answer(s). Otherwise, your data will be saved and you will proceed to the requested screen. We also allow you to skip to another screen without your new data being saved. Be aware that if you use the Skip & Jump function on the left column, data on the current screen will not be saved and will have to be reentered prior to submittal.
